Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum

Core:
To acquaint students with the concept of “being Jewish” and having a Jewish identity. Student connection to the Temple/Synagogue and Religious School, and how that connection relates to their home is stressed, so they can begin to feel a part of Temple/Synagogue and the Jewish Community. The main vehicle for this identification process is through sensory experiences (the five senses).

Objectives:

  1. Identify the basic symbols of Jewish life.
  2. Recite the Shema, Motzi, Kiddush and Shabbat Candle blessing.
  3. Explore the holiday rituals as holidays occur in the cycle of the year.
  4. Identify Biblical and post-Biblical characters as they occur in the cycle of the year.
  5. Demonstrate positive attitudes toward Judaism.
  6. Hebrew – start identifying Hebrew alphabet and learn Alef-Bet song.

Structure:
Service, 1 hour core class, 1/2 hour Hebrew, 1/2 hour music/art

Parent Involvement:

Parents are expected to insure their child attends Religious School regularly and on time. In addition, parents will be responsible for reading all materials sent home and reinforcing the lessons learned during Religious School. Parents are expected to participate in parent/child learning experiences planned by the teacher and/or Religious School.
