Food Bank Needs Help!
Our Food Bank finds itself in financial need. Our fund had a negative balance at the end of May. Thanks to a very generous donation from the Leonard Newman Endowment Fund, we were able to feed our recipients in June. We also received a generous check from Ahavas Israel, from their Maot Chitim Fund at Pesach. At the recent Jewish Federation allocation meeting, we received another generous grant to help provide food for our recipients. All of these donations will help us through the holidays, but then we will find ourselves again in need. Please consider making a donation to the food bank so we can continue to help feed the hungry in Grand Rapids. A donation to the food bank is state tax credit. For those of you who have made donations to our Food Bank, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your generosity will help feed many hungry families in Grand Rapids.

COLLEGE OUTREACH
It is that time again when we start thinking about sending our children off to college. The URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) offers many different programs and services to Reform college students to help them have fulfilling Jewish experiences in college, including a free trip to Israel. It is important for congregations to "stay in touch" with their students and to offer a link to the many opportunities provided by the URJ, as well as provide the tools to help stay connected to faith and tradition. When you know your child's school address, please download and complete the College Outreach form and mail it back to Temple, or email the information to: blumahleah@hotmail.com. If you are interested in helping to work on the holiday packages, please email me at: blumahleah@hotmail.com.

Data Base Update
We are still collecting email addresses. If you have not sent your email address to Temple or if your address has changed in the past few months, please email Mary@TempleEmanuelGR.org at the Temple office. Thank you.

SOCIAL ACTION CORNER
A fellow congregant introduced me to a wonderful organization that needs our help. Guardian Angel Homes provide safe, supportive, stimulating home environments in which adults with developmental disabilities can reach their full potential. Recognizing that these adults have limited opportunities to develop their spirituality or to form appropriate adult relationships, “Faith in Action” was introduced to train willing congregants to provide nonmedical volunteer services, care and companionship. Through “Faith in Action”, adults with developmental disabilities are linked to their faith community, and the community at large. Small acts such as shopping and errands, attending religious services together, supportive telephone calls, going out for coffee, baking or cooking together, visiting museums or libraries or the gardens, can mean so much. If you are interested in giving some time to a needy individual or want more information, please contact Donald Downer, director of Faith in Action, at 616-949-9230.

Mitzvah Meals
The Temple has prepared (home made meals) for those who are shut in, ill or bereaved. If you know of someone who might benefit from this, please call Mary at the Temple office, 459-5976. We will see to it that meals are delivered for the family. We can only be of assistance if we are made aware of the need. Thank you for letting us know so we can help.

Adult Education
For those interested in adult education planning for 2005-2006, please contact Shel Kopperl by phone or e-mail, kopperls@gvsu.edu or Rabbi Schadick, 459.5976 or rabbi_schadick@templeemanuelgr.org..
