This weekend GRTY hosts the NFTY-MI Spring Kallah at Indian Trails Camp. This weekend is open to any 8th-12th grade student. It is not too late to sign up. Call Jean Silbar for more information. We are expecting about 90 teenagers from all over the state. I will be spending Shabbat at the Kallah with the participants.

Services on Friday night will begin at 6:15 PM. They will be led by Barb Duchemin and Pam Rush.

This Friday night we remember Marjorie Albert, Audrey Fishman, Toby Friedman, Eric Gillette, Charles Glaser, Barbara Gorzeck, Gerald Gorzeck, Joseph Hermanson, Bela Klein, Florence Kopperl, Richard Newman, Irma Robinson, Samuel Samrick, Bessie Stone, and Ida Victorson.

We send our condolences to Dennis Hammond on the death of his father James Hammond, and to Rebecca, Sarah, and Andrew Hammond on the death of their grandfather.

We send our condolences to Mary Herbach on the death of her father Edward Mark, and to Michael and Lane Herbach on the death of their grandfather.

We send our wishes for a speedy recovery to Sylvia Krissoff who is recuperating at Spectrum Blodgett. Sylvia fell in her home last Thursday and injured her back.

Mazel Tov to three of our members who graduated from the University of Michigan on Saturday. In observance of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, the 8th grade students of Beit Sefer B'yahad will conduct a special service, beginning at 11:00 AM. This is open to the entire community. Following the service, we welcome Elzbieta Strassburger, who will speak about her personal experience of survival as a four-year-old girl.

Our celebration of Israel's 60th Anniversary takes place next weekend, May 9-11. Join us for three special events.

If anyone is able to help us set up for the Oneg Shabbat on Friday morning May 9 at 10:00 AM, please call the Temple office.

Friday May 9 A birthday party for our youngest members begins at 5:45 PM. Invitations were sent to the families of our youngest members. There will be music, songs, Israeli flag waving, and a special story for Yom Ha'atzmaut. Cake and challah follow the service.

Festive Shabbat Services will begin at 6:30 PM (note the later time). These will be filled with Israeli music and a very special liturgy. The Shir Shalom Choir will sing. Services will be followed by an Israeli-style Oneg Shabbat, with Middle Eastern foods and desserts.

Saturday May 10 Hatishma Koli: Will You Hear My Voice? Join us at 10:00 AM for a special adult education class. We will study the journey of Israel through its popular music. Coffee & bagels will be served.

Sunday May 11 Join us at 7:30 PM for Sunday Night at the Movies, featuring the Israeli film, Someone to Run With. This movie is based on the novel by David Grossman, the intertwined stories of two Jerusalem teenagers is a tale about growing up and finding the strength to overcome your fears, the meaning of true friendship, and best of all, finding someone to love, someone to hold, someone to run with.

Thanks to our Temple Social Action committee for a great Chametz Fest this past Saturday evening. Many thanks to Dan Fogel, Brenda Behm, Barb Duchemin, Dan Rosen, Jonathan Golden, and all those people who helped.

It is Raffle Ticket Season at Temple. Our annual cash raffle is underway. Purchase a ticket for $100 and one of the cash prizes could be yours. Win $10,000, $2,500, $1,500, or $1,000. ¨ö ticket and ¨ù ticket purchases are most welcome. Call or stop by the Temple office.

Our Annual Meeting takes place on Sunday morning May 18 at 10:00 AM. We invite our entire congregation to have brunch with us. The cost is $8 a person. Please send your check to the Temple office to RSVP.

And please plan to be with us on Sunday evening June 8th as we celebrate Shavuot with a very special program. We begin at 6:30 P.M. with a potluck dairy dinner. Temple will provide the bagels and lox. At 7:30 P.M. we welcome Albert Barry, the Executive Producer of the multi-award winning documentary, The Lost Wooden Synagogues of Eastern Europe..

Barry's film tells the story of the synagogues, the life that surrounded them before the War and what happened to them in the last 50 years. First Mr. Barry will acquaint us with the subject matter and then at 8:00 P.M. we will view the documentary, which is narrated by Theodore Bikel. The film is 48 minutes. Following the presentation, Mr. Barry will answer questions. The cost for the evening is $5. Call the Temple to RSVP.

Coming June 14..A Taste of Temple Cook-Off. Dust off your recipes. Have them judged by our panel of judges. Prizes will go to all winners. There are three categories to enter; appetizers, salads/side dishes, and desserts. Sample the work of all of our contestants. Have a chance to bid on the winning items. The evening will conclude with our Annual Raffle Drawing. If anyone is interested in helping with this project please call Lynn Hoenke at 949-6250 or e-mail her at Lynn@Comcast.Net.

If anyone is interested in leading services whileRabbi is on sabbatical this summer either e-mail me or call me at the office. We will be using our new Mishkan Tefillah prayer books throughout the summer. I am leaving on June 10 and I will return on August 18.

Temple Emanuel will host the Union For Reform Judaism Great Lakes Region Biennial the weekend of November 13-16. Please save this date. We want lots of our members involved in all the activities of the weekend. Hundred of fellow Reform Jews will be staying at the Crowne Plaza. We are also looking for volunteers to help throughout the weekend.
