Kindergarten Curriculum

Core:
To continue building the foundations of Jewish life and practice by exploring Judaism’s relationships to our lives and homes. Home based Jewish customs are explored to give the students an understanding of the integral role Judaism plays in their lives. Home and Temple/Synagogue based Jewish customs and traditions are explored to give students an understanding of the integral role Judaism plays in their lives.

Objectives:

  1. Know the basic symbols of Jewish life and identify when and where they are used.
  2. Recite in Hebrew the Shema, Motzi, Kiddush, Shabbat candle blessing, Modeh Ani and Chanukah blessings.
  3. Participate in holiday rituals as holidays occur in the cycle of the year.
  4. Identify and briefly describe Biblical and post-Biblical characters as they occur in the cycle of the year,
  5. Demonstrate a basic understanding of Tzedakah and Mitzvah.
  6. Hebrew – start identifying Hebrew alphabet and learn Alef-Bet song.

Structure:
Service, 1 hour core class, 1/2 hour Hebrew, 1/2 hour music/art

Parent Involvement:

Parents are expected to insure their child attends Religious School regularly and on time. In addition, parents will be responsible for reading all materials sent home and reinforcing the lessons learned during Religious School. Parents are expected to participate in parent/child learning experiences planned by the teacher and/or Religious School.
