Second Grade Curriculum

Core:
To expand the study of the Jewish holiday cycle to include tradition, history and legend: to explore historical, religious and ethical concepts presented in the Torah stories of Genesis and Exodus: and to expand upon Hebrew vocabulary and to recognize the Hebrew letters.

Objectives:

  1. Sing in Hebrew the Havdallah blessings, Shehecheyanu, Shabbat blessings and begin the Passover four questions.
  2. Explain the meaning and history of the holidays as they occur in the cycle of the year.
  3. Identify specific Jewish values associated with the Biblical characters of Genesis and Exodus.
  4. Apply the values and ethics learned in the Bible stories of Genesis and Exodus to everyday life including the classroom, family and Jewish and general communities.
  5. Hebrew – Reading one syllable words.

Structure:
Service, 1 hour core class, 1/2 hour Hebrew, 1/2 hour music/art

Parent Involvement:

Parents are expected to insure their child attends Religious School regularly and on time. In addition, parents will be responsible for reading all materials sent home and reinforcing the lessons learned during Religious School. Parents are expected to participate in parent/child learning experiences planned by the teacher and/or Religious School.
