First Grade Curriculum

Core:
To learn about the uniqueness of the Jewish calendar and the cycles of the holidays and festivals: to introduce Jewish values through biblical stories and to learn basic Hebrew vocabulary.

Objectives:

  1. Recite in Hebrew and English the Shema, Motzi, Kiddush, Shabbat candle blessings, Modeh Ani and Chanukah blessings.
  2. Relate the major festivals of the Jewish calendar.
  3. Tell the stories of major Biblical characters in the book of Genisis.
  4. Relate the values and lessons learned from the Biblical characters to their own lives.
  5. Hebrew – Know the Hebrew alphabet.

Structure:
Service, 1 hour core class, 1/2 hour Hebrew, 1/2 hour music/art

Parent Involvement:

Parents are expected to insure their child attends Religious School regularly and on time. In addition, parents will be responsible for reading all materials sent home and reinforcing the lessons learned during Religious School. Parents are expected to participate in parent/child learning experiences planned by the teacher and/or Religious School.
